Ancient symbols such as skulls and shells represent the duality of life and death when paired together. With our increasing awareness of good vs evil in our present world, these natural objects speak to me when I paint for how they emanate with metaphor and spiritual significance.

Reminiscent of the Grim Reaper with a large shadow behind him, the cloaked skull foreshadows what impending doom is yet to come. As the viewer travels down the painting one will notice the fluid transition from dark to light into the conch shell, a symbol in Buddhism representing a sign of victory over suffering.

With the constant push and pull between good and evil, light and dark, the conch is most radiant in the painting. As the social and political climate affect our Planet, this painting calls for the viewer to have a moment of deep contemplation as the opposing forces collide.

The Dance of Rebirth
Oil on Linen, "28 x 28" (includes 2" white, beveled frame), 2017
$450

Through my decision to enlarge and then to distort edges of the conch shells in “Yoniversal Grace” and the oysters within “The Dance of Rebirth” these oil paintings visually show how exaggeration of form and enlarging the actual scale of the shells can enhance my message of inspiring my viewers to be more environmental aware. Metaphorically the way the shells are dissipating in and out of each other show the process of recycling. By combining my love of observational painting and then escaping to a place of creative freedom I create spiraling, sensual images of nature.

Night Light Jellyfish
12"x 9", Oil on Canvas, 2018-2019
Holy Trinity
Acrylic on Canvas, 2017, $300

Heavily inspired by transcendentalism, I use oysters as a metaphor for the human body as a shell which I believe contains our a omnipresent spirit within us all.  In three stages the painting of oysters illuminate the process of change from physical to spiritual. Furthermore, shells are made of calcium which is great for the earth’s fertility. Much like our bodys when we pass away, we become apart of the earth once again. This painting represents my fascination with rebirth and the process of recycling.
